a basic console gets glam with black

Tuesday, September 09, 2014

At first I had envisioned two matching side tables to flank our sofa, because I really like symetry. But then, I thought that a console would also look great on this side, as it would be the first thing you see when you enter the room.

So I began looking for a decent priced one, with a lower shelf that could accomodate some bottles and a basket with a few blankets. Then bingo ! I found the perfect one on Furniture 123 (apparently no longer available).
I liked its simple shape, and the dimensions were exactly what I was looking for. It came in this quite cheap looking wood veneer finish. But I didn't care much about that, because I knew it would be painted eventually. So I gave it two coats of glossy black paint, and it totally tranformed this basic console into a much more elegant piece of furniture.
And of course, I'm always playing with the decor to create fun vignettes. For now I'm using this very simple and classic ivory /slightly shimmery lamp that I've found at TKMaxx, Newbury, for like £35 (lampshade included - great deal !). Add few pictures and books et voilĂ  !
If you live around Newbury, make sure to visit TKMaxx in the Kennet Center every now and then, I always find great things there, and at a great price too (not that I am being paid to write that, it's just a tip !). Have a great Tuesday !

  1. I love the table and it definitely looks very chic in it's new black coat. Gorgeous lamp and vignette too. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me.

  2. Such a change - for the good. You are right, it really dressed it up. I like how narrow the table is - so often those couch tables are wider and you can't it them just anywhere. You have a nice piece there - good job!

    1. Thank you Val ! It took me a while to find the perfect sized console indeed ... Thanks for your kind word !
