Upstairs corridor makeover, from dull to fun

Friday, September 12, 2014

The first floor corridor's was in a desperate need of a little freshen up. Nothing major or spectacular but I thought a bit more personality couldn't hurt. This was before:
Nothing wrong, but the same paint as every other room in the house, a beige/yellow/cream color (I think they call it Mimosa), which in that specific area looked really yellow and sad. So I gave the walls two fresh coats of Elephant Breath by Farrow&Ball.
Already much better. Of course, we will also paint our staircase (on the right) soon, you can see the difference with the previous paint colour there.

And ever since we moved in, I have been envisioning a fun children books display on the wall between each kids' room. So with the much appreciated help of my husband (Thanks Honey !), we installed 3 picture shelves from Homebase.
And this is our corridor now:
I also changed the lampshade for a black one that I dressed up with some gold contact paper to create a nice, warm light. Easiest project ever, and so glamorous !
The kids really appreciate being able to reach the books. Plus the whole display brings some fun to this rather boring part of the house. You know what else is great ? If I ever get tired of it, I can change the decor in a snap, simply by replacing the books with, say, family pictures.
So what do you think ? Have a great weekend !

  1. Hi Marianne !
Love your new blog, like the other ones before ;)
I'm totally in love with the gold interior of the lampshade. Of course, the books display is great.
Sorry for my poor english vocabulary, I need to improve it more often.
